Kasia Kelly, a Biological Science Technician for the USGS, took this picture of USGS Great Lakes Science Center summer intern Samantha Jurecki collecting water samples at Washington Park Beach in Michigan City, IN (Lake Michigan) for eDNA molecular analysis targeting an invasive species, the Round Goby. A filtration cup is attached to the end of a telescopic sampling pole for direct filtration of water sample from Lake Michigan. The goal of this study is to explore the abundance of Round Gobys in nearshore areas of the Great Lakes. A Geotech Geopump Peristaltic Pump is used to pump the sample water.
