Laura Fisch, a Marine Science Graduate Student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,
sent us these pictures of the filtering setup they use for sea water research.
"We have 6 Geotech Polycarbonate In-Line Filter Holders (142 mm) that we take out into the field on sampling trips. We use these filter holders to hold two sets of filters with the goal of filtering out all the biological life (phytoplankton and bacteria) from sea water. We then use the filters that capture all the microbial life for DNA analysis and then use the filtered sterilized sea water for chemical analysis."
